Exemption of a paper in CA Intermediate and Final Examinations Conducted By the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India
This Article gives you complete information about Exemption regulations brought by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), which every CA Student should know about.
Ø If a student takes all the papers in a group/unit and fails in one or more papers in that group, but scores at least 60% in any of the subject, they get an exemption for that paper which has scored 60% of marks. This exemption is valid for the next three consecutive exams. During these three exams, the student only needs to clear the subject and group (i.e score minimum 40% of marks in each subject and and a minimum of 50% of the total marks of all the subjects of that Group/Unit including the paper(s) in which he/she had secured a minimum of 60% marks in the earlier examination)
Ø A Student need not retake the exams they scored 60% or more.
Ø There is no exemption at CA Foundation Level.
Ø Exemption regulations is applicable only at CA Intermediate and CA Final Level.
Ø A Student shall not be eligible for any further exemptions in the remaining paper(s) of that Group/Unit until they have exhausted the exemptions already granted in that Group/Unit.
If a candidate has exhausted the exemption granted and was not able to pass the said Group or Unit, they may opt for the continuing of said exemption to the subsequent examinations.
However, in such a case, such candidate shall be required to obtain a minimum 50% of marks in each of the remaining paper/s of that Group or Unit in order to declare them to have passed in that Group or Unit.
